CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration and Esthetic Ceramics, and is also known as ceramic reconstruction or same day crowns. At Pitt Street Dental Centre in Sydney CBD, we know that accidents and other unforeseen problems can happen that damage teeth. Getting teeth fixed can help you get back to your normal life, and if you don’t want to wait, same day treatment with CEREC might be the right solution for you.
What is CEREC?
CEREC utilises technology allowing dental crowns to be created in a single visit right in our clinic. With the help of computer-aided design, or CAD software, your dental restoration will be created with the CEREC mill from a single piece of ceramic, providing durability and comfort.
CEREC can create your crown on the day of your visit. This saves you time and bypasses the need for a temporary restoration, which can be cumbersome and uncomfortable.

Damaged teeth can cause problems when left untreated. Our philosophy is to do all we can to save your teeth, avoiding the need for replacements as long as possible. Dental crowns save teeth that are damaged and helps avoid the need for removing them. Dental restorations made with CEREC can treat the following:

The CEREC Process
CEREC is a way to quickly restore teeth with a custom designed dental prosthesis. Advanced computer-aided technology helps us create crowns that accurately fit in with your natural teeth to restore bite and function. The following steps are what you can expect with CEREC:
We will do a full dental exam to check the tooth to be repaired as well as ensure there are no hidden problems
We will collect data such as photos, digital scans and x-rays which will be used to create your restoration
The data will be uploaded into the software that will convert the information into a 3D virtual model
While waiting, your tooth or teeth will be prepared for the restoration
Using the collected data, our skilled dentists will use the CEREC mill to craft your crown according to the specifications of the data
Once complete, your new restoration will be fitted and bonded for comfort

Caring for your CEREC Crown
When you invest in CEREC, taking care of your new teeth will help your restoration last as long as possible. Once placed, a CEREC crown can be cleaned just like the rest of your teeth. Even with daily cleaning, keep in mind that certain food and drinks can still stain your other teeth. Limiting these foods along with regular professional teeth cleaning visits can help keep your natural teeth and restorations in top shape. The following are some common guidelines for taking care of your new smile:
Brush at least twice each day
Floss according to your dentist’s instructions
Use an intraoral cleaner to thoroughly clean around and between the crown and remove hidden debris and bacteria
Use mouthwash as your dentist instructs
Maintain regular dental visits so we can keep your teeth free of problems or catch them early if any do arise
Get regular dental cleanings to keep tartar from building up and keep your mouth fresh
