What Is the Difference Between Implant-Supported Dentures and All-Teeth-On-4?

Hi, Dr. Michael Cai here from Pitt Street Dental Centre in Sydney CBD.

Do you wear dentures and get frustrated with them not staying in place or that irritate your gums? Well, you’re not alone. That’s why a lot of people start looking into full-arch teeth replacement. You’ve probably heard of implant-supported dentures and All-Teeth-On-4 solutions, but what’s the difference?

Well, that’s what I’m going to go through today in this video!

You see, the main distinction is that implant-supported dentures are removable, whereas All-Teeth-On-4 is fixed in place.

Now, with implant-supported dentures, the prosthetic teeth are secured to dental implants, providing better stability than traditional dentures. However, they still need to be removed daily, before bed and for cleaning. This option is ideal for elderly patients or those who may struggle with maintaining hygiene underneath a fixed prosthesis. A carer or nursing home staff can easily assist by removing the denture for proper cleaning.

On the other hand, All-Teeth-On-4 is a permanent, fixed bridge that is secured directly onto implants with small screws. You don’t need to take it out, but it does require meticulous daily cleaning to maintain gum health. Using interdental brushes, water flossers, and proper oral hygiene techniques is really important to keep the implants and surrounding gums healthy.

Now, which option is better, you might ask. It really depends on your lifestyle, dexterity, and personal preferences. If you want a secure, non-removable solution that feels more like natural teeth, All-Teeth-On-4 is the way to go. But if you prefer an easier-to-clean, removable alternative, implant-supported dentures may be the better choice.

So, if you are currently wearing dentures, and are looking for a more comfortable solution, we can definitely help. We offer flexible payment plans, as well as helping you apply for an early release of your super, so you can restore your smile faster.
