Hi, Dr. Michael Cai here from Pitt Street Dental Centre in Sydney CBD.
A lot of people hear about All-On-4 and think it’s the only option for full-arch tooth replacement these days, but the truth is, there are several alternatives. Let’s dive into it together.
Number 1 is Traditional Full Dentures. These are the removable dentures that have been around for decades. While they’re still used, they come with challenges like lower chewing efficiency, some discomfort, and difficulty staying in place.
Number 2 is Implant-Supported Overdentures. These are removable dentures that clip onto two to four implants for added stability. While they offer better retention than traditional dentures, the denture still rests on the gums, meaning some discomfort and maintenance are still involved.
Number 3 is the Traditional All-On-4 Approach. This method involves placing four implants in a strategic, tilted position to support a full-arch prosthesis. It requires bone recontouring, meaning some of the jawbone is reshaped during the procedure to create an even foundation.
Finally, we have the FP1 Prosthesis, which is Fixed Teeth Without Pink Gums. Unlike the traditional All-On-4 approach, FP1 prostheses use six to eight implants and are designed to mimic your natural dentition. There’s no pink ceramic or artificial gum tissue, just teeth, making it look and feel more natural. However, this technique is more complex and requires precise implant placement.
Now, each option has its pros and cons, and the best choice depends on your bone health, aesthetic preferences, and lifestyle goals.
