3 Problems Dental Veneers Fix
Yesterday, I had one of my friends, Stewart, from high school visit our clinic. He moved to North Sydney a few weeks ago, and is looking for a new dentist to take care of him. He was recently promoted to a senior management role, and as part of his role, he needs to be in front of the camera for social media. He told me he is not that comfortable with his smile, especially in front of the camera. He said it makes him cringe every time he sees himself!
He has been hearing about dental porcelain veneers, but doesn’t know too much about it, so he asked me, “Hey Michael, what are some of the problems that dental veneers can fix?”
This is a very common question we get from patients. Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular treatments we do here, especially among well known Australian personalities, so I thought I’ll make a short video sharing with you what I shared with Stewart.
Dental veneers are primarily used to improve the overall smile.
First of all, it allows us to fix minor to moderate crowding, spacing, or alignment issues. So when we get a patient who has very limited time to achieve the smile outcome, where an orthodontic treatment is not an option, then dental veneers are a great solution.
Finally, dental veneers can fix teeth size problems. We can increase the size or decrease the size of the smile display. Sometimes we will also reshape the gums simultaneously if the patient has a gummy smile. This will ensure the size of the teeth is in harmony with the overall facial features. This proportional harmony can make a big difference to the overall smile.
The materials we use to make dental veneers nowadays are similar to the strength of enamel. So for a tooth that’s moderately damaged, you will strengthen the teeth as well.
Now, to do a smile makeover with veneers, you must have good oral hygiene and healthy gums.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of some of the problems dental veneers can fix.
