What Do I Do If Professional Whitening Won’t Remove The Stains On My Teeth

People Asked:
What Do I Do If Professional Whitening Won’t Remove The Stains On My Teeth?

If professional teeth whitening isn’t effective, you can consider alternative methods like laser whitening, improving oral hygiene to prevent surface stains, or choosing dental veneers for deep, embedded stains.

Hi, I’m Dr Kim Nguyen, the principal dentist of Pitt St Dental Centre here in Sydney CBD.

This morning I saw my new patient, Peta from Surry Hills. She had teeth whitening done previously and it didn’t remove the stains on her teeth and give her the brilliance she was looking for. After seeing what her friend had achieved at our practice, she decided to come and see us.

If the stains are superficial and are on the surface of the teeth:

  • Avoid foods and drinks that stain – If your teeth are prone to staining, minimize or avoid intake to help prevent future discolouration. Coffee, tea, red wine, curry and dark berries are all common culprits.
  • Secondly, improve your oral hygiene – In some cases, stains may be caused by poor oral hygiene. Improving your brushing and flossing, as well as seeing us for your professional cleans, can help remove surface stains and prevent new ones from forming.
  • Otherwise, try a different whitening method – If traditional whitening treatments aren’t working, you may want to try laser or light-activated whitening.

However, if the stains are not superficial and are embedded deep into the teeth:

You might need to consider dental veneers. Whether it’s composite or porcelain, veneers can be a great option for correcting severe stains that can’t be removed with whitening treatments. Veneers are custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth, creating a bright, natural-looking smile.

So to wrap up, if professional teeth whitening isn’t working for you, there are several options to consider. Either by trying a different whitening method, or improving your oral hygiene habits or dental veneers, there are ways to achieve the brighter, healthier smile that you are after.

If you want to upgrade your smile with whiter, brighter teeth, we would love to help. Here at Pitt St Dental Centre, teeth whitening and cosmetic dentistry are procedures we do day in and day out, so we can definitely look after you.
